Barry Manilow Scheduled for an Operation for Cancer in His Lung.

The singer has disclosed that he received a diagnosis with a cancerous growth in his lung and will be having a surgical procedure.

Spot Found in Initial Phase

The legendary 82-year-old artist, famous for his series of high-spirited hits from "I Write the Songs" cemented his status as one of pop music’s cherished showmen, will have an operation to take out a section of lung tissue in an effort to combat the disease, which is at an early phase.

“For those who have been following, I recently suffered from six weeks of a bronchial infection followed by a relapse of another five weeks.

“Even though I was past the infection and back on stage at the Westgate Las Vegas, my wonderful doctor requested an MRI just to be certain that everything was OK.

“The MRI detected a malignant lesion on my left lung that needs to be removed. It’s sheer fortune (and a fantastic physician) that it was caught so early.”

Concert Delays

He has delayed a series of forthcoming shows, but suggested he would be on stage again by mid-February for his long-running concert series at his Vegas home.

He went on to say: “The medical team do not believe it has spread and I’m having examinations to support their conclusion. So, that’s it. No chemo. Radiation therapy is off the table. Just home remedies and classic TV.

“I’m looking forward to until I come back to my home away from home in Las Vegas for our February love-themed shows.”

A Long Career and Personal Life

Manilow is currently in the 16th year of a show in Nevada. The singer has enjoyed a career spanning many years in the limelight and revealed he is gay in 2017, after wedding his manager and long-term partner confidentially in 2014.

The pair were in a clandestine romance for more than 35 years. In 2023, Manilow reflected on how vital Kief had been to him during his explosion in popularity in the 1970s.

“During my rapid rise to fame, it was just crazy. And, you know, going back to an vacant room, you can find yourself in a lot of problems if you, you know, you’re on your own evening after evening,” he said.

“But I encountered my future husband right around when it was taking off. And I no longer had to go back to those isolated suites. I had a person to be vulnerable with or to share joys with.

“I desire that young people don’t have to go back to those suites by themselves, because you get yourself in trouble. I never did. But it was very solitary until I met Garry. And then it was a shared adventure.”
