Critically, all progress earned within this demo is eligible to be carried over directly into the main game upon its February release.

Beyond Just a Simple Re-release: The Thorough Transformation

This project is a from-scratch reimagining of the landmark year 2000 RPG, originally known as Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. Taking a notable step away from recent Dragon Quest re-releases, such as the previously released HD-2D iterations, this reimagining adopts a unique three-dimensional art style. The world are designed to look like detailed dioramas, with protagonists featuring a whimsical chibi-esque look.

"Taking into account the previous port, the narrative was remained exceptionally extended. Consequently, the team came to a determination that we wanted to streamline the story, [and] craft an experience for contemporary audiences."

Significant Gameplay Changes & Modernizations

The creators has implemented numerous changes to refresh the original gameplay loop. Among these are:

  • Streamlined Overworld Battles: Inspired by modern role-playing games, low-level monsters are now dispatched instantly on the overworld map eliminating the need for entering a separate traditional combat sequence.
  • Variable Combat Pace: Players have the option to accelerate combat animations to rapidly get past simpler fights.
  • Expanded Vocation System: One brand new character role has been created for this reimagining. Furthermore, party members gain the option to master a secondary vocation, greatly enhancing customization possibilities.

These refinements are aimed at address a key the 2000 title's frequent points of feedback: its immense scope. That initial adventure could easily take over 100 hours to complete. The reimagined edition has been expressly structured to enhance flow and reduce perceived repetition.
