One of the co-founders of the well-known frozen dessert company Ben & Jerry's has stated how parent company the multinational conglomerate blocked the launch for a new pro-Palestinian frozen dessert product.

Ben Cohen, that co-founded the business alongside his partner, revealed that he plans to personally create the controversial product within an individual collection highlighting issues the company was prevented from addressing publicly.

Longstanding Dispute Involving Founders and Parent Company

This latest development escalates the continuing conflict between the internationally recognized dessert company and its corporate parent, the British packaged goods giant that acquired the ice cream brand since 2000.

The co-founders maintain that Unilever and their ice cream division the Magnum brand improperly prevented their company against "honouring its social mission".

Watermelon Flavor as an Emblem for Solidarity

Mr. Cohen stated through social media that he is creating an innovative watermelon-based sorbet, requesting public suggestions for naming options plus additional components.

“I'm accomplishing what they couldn't,” the founder stated in his kitchen. “I'm creating a watermelon-based frozen dessert that advocates for lasting ceasefire for Palestinians and calls for addressing the harm that was done there.”

The watermelon has emerged as an emblem of solidarity with Palestinians because of its colors, that match those of Palestine's national banner – the distinctive four-color pattern.

Historical Activism and Recent Developments

Several years ago, Ben & Jerry's ceased sales of their merchandise in areas occupied by Israel, leading to Unilever selling the Israeli operation to an Israeli distributor, thus allowing ongoing distribution in the occupied West Bank.

The new dessert series is being created through Ben's Best, the activist dessert company that originally established several years back to support former political contender Senator Sanders via the flavor "Bernie's Back".

Leadership Shifts plus Future Intentions

The founder stated that he will create additional frozen dessert varieties that address concerns which Ben & Jerry's was silenced from speaking about openly due to corporate restrictions.

This development comes after co-founder Mr. Greenfield resigned from Ben & Jerry's in September, after decades with the organization, citing concerns regarding how its independence was compromised after corporate moves to curb their advocacy work.

Previously, Mr. Cohen stated that "Jerry has strong compassion and this conflict with our parent company was breaking it."

"My heart leads me to continue to work inside the company to advocate for its independence ensuring that it can achieve the social mission, the principles that established its foundation while upholding for decades," he explained to journalists.
