The royal figure relinquishes his honor as York's Duke.
He is relinquishing his honors, such as the Duke of York, he has declared in a individual message.
He has been under increasing scrutiny over his associations with sex offender Epstein, with demands for the royal household to take action against him.
That now seems to have resulted in the figure deciding to willingly give up his titles and to surrender membership of the Order of the Garter.
In his statement he said he continued to "vigorously dispute the allegations against me".
"In talks with the King, and my close and wider family, we have concluded the ongoing allegations about me take away from the work of the monarch and the Royal Family," said a announcement from the royal.
"I have opted, as I always have, to put my duty to my kin and nation first.
"I stand by my decision five years ago to stand back from official duties.
"With the King's agreement, we feel I must now go a further step. I will therefore no longer use my title or the awards which have been bestowed on me. As I have said previously, I strongly deny the allegations against me."
He has faced a series of controversies, such as a lawsuit he settled with the plaintiff, inquiries about his finances and his involvement with an accused intelligence operative.
He will continue to be a prince - but will stop to be the York's Duke, a title received from his the late Queen, the Queen Elizabeth II.
Andrew had already stopped to be a "participating figure" and had lost the use of his His Royal Highness designation and no longer appeared at official royal events. His position now will be even more reduced.
His former spouse will be known as Sarah and no longer Duchess of York, but their children will carry on to have the title of royal princess.
Prince Andrew has faced strong examination over his links with disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein, more lately involving inquiries about when he had really severed communication.
In his BBC Newsnight interview, he had said that he had ended all ties with Epstein after they had been seen together in New York in late 2010.
But emails sent in February 2011 later emerged indicating that the prince had in private continued in communication with Epstein, including swapping a communication: "Remain connected and we'll have further interactions soon!"
There had been mounting annoyance in Buckingham Palace at the controversies that persisted to envelop the royal.
Soon a late publication by Giuffre will be issued which is anticipated to bring further attention on the royal's association with Virginia Giuffre and the financier.
