Heavy rains over the recent period have intensified the precarious situation of the hundreds of thousands of evacuated Palestinians in the region, as stated by humanitarian agencies.
"Terrible" Night Brings Serious Threats
A representative detailed the weather overnight as "awful", with rain so intense that around 15cm (6in) of water gathered on the ground.
"Last night was truly horrendous for the people. The heavy rains were so strong... And the winds were so forceful," said the representative.
There is extreme worry that children living in makeshift shelters in damp garments will succumb to hypothermia and various illnesses.
Deaths and Extensive Destruction
Health authorities have reported that one baby has succumbed from exposure and a minimum of 11 other people have been killed in building collapses triggered by the harsh conditions.
Further statements indicate a higher fatality count. Spokespeople stated that multiple homes had totally fallen and dozens had sustained partial collapse.
- Nearly 55,000 families harmed by flooding.
- More than 40 official refuges severely flooded.
- Many people compelled to relocate again.
Assistance Efforts Considered Insufficient
Organizations have increased distribution of tarpaulins, warm covers and garments after the truce started, but they have said there is remains not enough aid getting in.
"Agencies are working relentlessly to deliver that relief and to allocate it, but the scale of the needs is so immense that we continue to see a great number of individuals and minors who are genuinely suffering each evening," stated one spokesperson.
Future Issues and Ceasefire Plans
The subsequent part of the truce encompasses proposals for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with post-war governance, the pullback of troops, and other provisions.
Relief bodies have underscored the need for "expanded and ongoing relief to respond to pressing and ongoing requirements."
The conflict was triggered by an attack in October 2023. Following campaigns have led to a high number of fatalities in the region, according to health ministry figures.
