Tottenham Manager Thomas Frank Calls Goalkeeper Critics 'Not Genuine Fans'
The Cottagers Start Strong to Beat Spurs and Raise Pressure on Frank
Spurs supporters who jeered goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario were told afterwards "they can't be true Tottenham supporters" by manager Frank.
Spurs conceded a pair of goals in the opening six minutes to fall 2-1 to their opponents, registering their 10th top-flight home loss of the year.
However the primary topic of discussion was Fulham's next score when the keeper gave away the ball well beyond his area.
The goalkeeper ventured out to deal with a high pass and carried the ball towards the sideline.
However, rather than booting it out of play, the Italy international turned and tried to clear, but slipped as the ball glanced off Harry Wilson and was collected by Josh King.
King laid the ball off to Welsh midfielder Wilson, who bent a shot into the net from the touchline recorded at 36.6 metres.
Moments afterwards when the ball came to the keeper once more, some Spurs supporters jeered him.
The team were jeered off at the interval, with the club 2-0 behind, and once more at the final whistle.
A particular of those booing sessions truly angered the manager.
"I heard some of our fans reportedly jeered the incident and jeered following, which, in my opinion is completely unjustifiable," the Dane stated regarding the fans' response to his shot-stopper.
"[They] can't be true Tottenham supporters that act that way. Fair enough jeering following the game, no problem, but when we are in play, we are backing one another, we are with each other going forward."
Tete had handed Fulham a fourth-minute lead prior to Wilson's strike – with Mohammed Kudus scoring for Spurs in an improved second period performance.
Former Premier League keeper Joe Hart stated that the second goal was "totally preventable".
"I certainly appreciate the fans' disappointment," the ex-keeper added. "I am aware the part the keeper is playing. He's a excellent team player, he's a true figure in the dressing room but ultimately you are going to be assessed by your actions.
"He was deeply involved in what turned out to be the winning score."
'It is In the Game, I Can Handle It'
Frank Stood Up For His Goalkeeper Vicario After the Game
Italy international the keeper is in his third season with Tottenham.
The 29-year-old stated after the game that he had to accept the feedback.
"The second goal was a error of mine, I take responsibility for that," he said.
"My aim was to clear the ball far and I just struck the ball in a poor manner. That made an even bigger challenge to overcome."
He said being booed "comes with football".
"I am mature, how can I respond?" he continued. "We cannot be affected by the circumstances in the crowd. The fans have the right to do as they see fit.
"It's on the team to remain more calm, to focus on our own performance. We are missing in composure and poise to overturn results. Today is a bad loss and it's hard to accept."
'It Shocked Me No One Went Back to the Goal Line'
In spite of Vicario's error, it was far from an simple score for Wilson to score.
In fact it was the next longest-range Premier League goal of the season – following Adams' forty-three point three metre strike for the Cherries against the Black Cats, which incidentally also occurred on the same day.
The goalscorer stated he was "a little bit taken aback" that he still had an open goal to aim for.
Ten moments elapsed between the keeper coming out of his area and the midfielder striking – which was five moments following the clearance.
"I felt like the goalkeeper was away from the box for ages," he said.
"It amazed me none of the defenders returned to the line. When not one of them covered the goal, my interest lit up somewhat.
"[Destiny] Udogie fell too, which allowed me a little additional time. Then it was solely about trying to achieve the right contact and get it towards goal. I felt a positive sense, as soon as it came off my boot, that it was on the right line."
'During in a Bad Spell, Everything Seems to Go Against You'
Jeering Whilst We Are Still Playing Is Totally Unjustifiable - Frank
While the keeper's error dominated coverage, this was an all-round bad day for Tottenham to extend their home ground struggles.
This was their 10th home loss of the year in the Premier League, a joint team record matching 1994 and two thousand and three.
The side still have home fixtures against Frank's old side Brentford and title holders the Reds to play before the close of the season.
Just a single of those victories have come after Frank replaced his predecessor in the off-season.
"When you're behind 2-0 after six minutes, there is a mountain to overcome," stated the boss.
"When you're in a bad spell, everything seems to go against you as well – the first was a redirected shot, the next is a mistake from the keeper.
"This result leaves us in a position where we have lost another match. Each fixture has a single narrative, today we lost in the early stages.
"We simply need to continue striving. The later period was significantly improved and with luck an aspect we can utilize to learn."
Spurs have lost 4 straight home capital clashes for the first time in the top division.
And they are recording 9.5 attempts and three point two efforts on goal per game in the division – their poorest rates on file in a single season (dating back to the 2003-04 season).
Ex- Fulham midfielder Murphy commented that the manager has to ride the storm.
"He's got accept the criticism," the pundit remarked. "He has taken a high profile role at a major football club with enormous expectation. There is scrutiny and responsibility that comes with that.
"Their showings at home have been disappointing and they have to get better {quickly|
